Chile’s non-conventional renewables accounted for 38.1% of the total power production in the country in April, the Chilean national energy commission (CNE) said in its latest report.

This marked a few steps down from the low forties share the non-conventional renewables achieved in March.

These renewables, which exclude large hydro, generated 2,586 GWh gross of electricity in April, down 13.8% compared to March. Wind and solar power production experienced double-digit declines, falling by 13.0% and 17.5% month-on-month, respectively.

In year-on-year terms, the renewables output rose by 11.1%.

Conventional power generators produced 4,208 GWh gross, which represented a decline of 1.6% month-on-month and a 2.6% drop in annual terms.

Total gross production of 6,794 GWh meant a 6.6% decrease from March and a bump of 2.2% on the year.

Generation details for the non-conventional renewables are presented in the table below:

Technology: Gross production in GWh: month-on-month change: year-on-year change: Share in April:
Biomass 208 -1.6% 6.4% 8.0%
Wind 768 -13.0% 19.5% 29.7%
Solar PV 1,429 -17.5% 6.7% 55.3%
Solar CSP 0 0% -100% --
Small run-of-river hydro 148 8.1% 38.6% 5.7%
Geothermal 32 -6.7% -2.0% 1.2%

Chile’s total net installed non-conventional renewable energy capacity climbed to 14,899 MW in April from 14,881 MW in March.
