Non-conventional renewables accounted for 39.2% of Chile’s gross power production in February, Chilean national energy commission (CNE) said in its latest report on renewable energy in the country.

The February renewables share represents a decline from 43.4% reached a month earlier.

Gross power production from renewable sources dropped by 13.8% month-on-month to 2,748 GWh in February. Compared to the year-ago period, the renewables output increased by 8.2%.

Conventional energy sources, which include large hydro and fossil fuels, generated 4,267 GWh gross, which marked an increase of 2.8% month-on-month and by 7.3% on the year, according to the CNE’s figures.

Production details for the non-conventional renewables are displayed in the table:

Technology: Gross production in GWh: month-on-month change: year-on-year change: Share in February:
Biomass 229 9.9% 42.4% 8.3%
Wind 667 -23.0% -6.7% 24.3%
Solar PV 1,690 -11.4% 13.8% 61.5%
Solar CSP 0 0% -100% --
Small run-of-river hydro 129 -22.6% 10.6% 4.7%
Geothermal 33 -17.6% 9.8% 1.2%

The total net installed non-conventional renewable energy capacity in Chile climbed to 14,798 MW in February from 14,537 in January.
