The share of non-conventional renewables in Chile’s gross power generation mix fell to 33.6% in May from 38.1% the month prior, according to the latest figures released by the Chilean national energy commission (CNE).

Gross power production from non-conventional renewable energy sources dropped by 2.8% month-on-month to 2,514 GWh in May. This level of output is 3.1% higher compared to the same period a year ago.

At the same time, conventional sources marked an 18.0% month-on-month increase in production to 4,965 GWh.

Overall, the Chilean power system generated 7,480 GWh in May, which meant an increase of 10.1% month-on-month and of 6.3% on the year.

Chile’s total net installed non-conventional renewable energy capacity rose to 14,971 MW in May from 14,899 MW in April.
