China may include solar power equipment in rural subsidy scheme - report

Jan 19, 2012 - Solar power products may be added to a rural subsidy programme in China, under which consumers from rural areas get government subsidies to purchase home appliances, China Securities Journal said.

According to the report, a number of government ministries and departments in mainland China are considering the plan.

Under the subsidy scheme, which is to expire at the end of 2012, consumers in the countryside get a subsidy equal to 13% of a product's sales price. Adding solar products to the list of supported products is seen to have a huge positive impact on the Chinese solar power sector, China Securities Journal said, citing industry insiders.
