The Chinese ambassador to Cuba inaugurated on Thursday two photovoltaic (PV) plants in the country with a combined capacity of 9 MW.

The pair includes a 4-MW PV farm in Pinar del Rio province and a 5-MW plant in Cienfuegos province, the latter being the largest facility of its kind in Cuba, Chinese government news agency Xinhua reported.

During an event held in Yaguaramas town, Cuba's Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines, Ruben Cid, said that these solar facilities are part of a 21-MW solar project financed by the Ministry of Commerce of China (MOFCOM).

The two countries have worked together to develop various renewable projects, including 319 MW of solar parks. Currently, Cuba has a renewable generation target on its electricity grid of 24% by 2030.
