Chinese miner Zijin Mining Group (SHA:601899) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Serbian ministry of mining and energy, expressing interest in the development of a 300-MW solar farm in Serbia, Serbia’s government announced on Saturday.

The power plant, worth USD 200 million (EUR 186.7m), will enable the miner to meet its energy requirements in the Balkan country, having already established a copper-gold project in eastern Serbia.

The solar project will enable synergies between renewable energy sources and mining, Serbia’s minister of mining and energy Dubravka Djedovic Hadnanovic said in the government’s press release.

The commitment was accompanied with the signing of a separate MoU, which anticipates Zijin Mining’s further investment in the extraction of copper and gold in eastern Serbia.
