Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) on Wednesday marked at a ceremony the completion of construction works on a nearly 600-MW wind farm off the Taiwanese coast, its first offshore wind project in the Asia Pacific.

The Changfang-Xidao offshore wind complex comprises two wind farms located 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) off the west coast. It includes 62 turbines provided by Vestas and jacket foundations supplied by Taiwan’s Century Wind Power.

When fully operational, the site will increase Taiwan’s combined offshore capacity by around 25% and produce enough power to meet the annual energy needs of around 650,000 local homes.

Changfang-Xidao is majority-owned by CIP. The combined capacity of the two parks was included in a 900-MW award received by the company in an allocation process held by Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs back in 2018. Minority investors include a unit of Thai energy major PTT PCL and two Taiwanese life insurance companies, Taiwan Life and Transglobe Life.

CIP has a portfolio of 1.4 GW offshore wind in Taiwan. Apart from Changfang-Xidao, the company, along with partners, is currently also working on the 300-MW Zhongneng and the 500-MW Fengmiao projects.
