Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners P/S (CIP) announced last week that one of its associates will collaborate with the Mexican authorities on the development of a large-scale green hydrogen and green maritime fuels project in Mexico.

Specifically, Helax Istmo, which is fully owned by CIP-managed funds, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT) and Mexico’s Ministry of Navy. The signing took place in the presence of Mexican president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

The Danish renewables-dedicated fund manager plans to develop the Helax Istmo integrated renewable energy project in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, in Oaxaca, through its Growth Markets Funds II and Energy Transition Fund I.

“When fully operational, Helax is ideally placed to cater to the growing demand for green shipping fuels and make a significant contribution to the decarbonization of the global shipping industry,” commented Philip Cristiani, partner at CIP and co-head of the Energy Transition Fund.

Helax is expected to undergo formal indigenous and social consultations under Mexican law early next year.
