Philippine-based Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC) has kicked off construction works at a 240-MW solar park project in its home country’s coastal province of Pangasinan.

The start of building activities was celebrated at an official ceremony, the company said on Wednesday, adding that this is its first photovoltaic (PV) project in this province and the second one to enter construction in the Philippines this year. Additionally, CREC unveiled plans to further expand in the province by building another solar farm of 270 MW and a 150-MW wind park.

To be installed in Binalonan municipality, the 240-MW solar farm will have an estimated annual output of some 326 GWh, equal to the electricity consumption of 136,000 homes. The capacity will be built in phases, with the first one of 168 MW slated to go online by the end of this year. The remaining 72 MW is due to be commissioned in December 2025.

CREC, which targets a bourse listing, aims to add roughly 1 GW of ready-to-build or under-construction solar capacity to its portfolio each year during the next five years. Last month, the company started building a 69-MWp solar park in Negros Occidental province.
