CMPC to invest USD 220m in biomass-fired power plants - report

(ADPnews) - Apr 12, 2011 - Chilean forestry and paper company Empresas CMPC (SCL:CMPC) will invest USD 220 million (EUR 152.3m) in power plants based on biomass, local daily El Mercurio reported, quoting CMPC's secretary general, Gonzalo Garcia.
The company is now building two of those units, estimated at USD 200 million, which will supply CMPC's Santa Fe and Laja cellulose plants in the central region of Biobio. In addition, the company plans to build another power unit for nearly USD 20 million to supply its Puente Alto complex.
CMPC already has a biomass power unit at its Pacifico plant.
The company targets to stop depending on external electricity supplies ten years from now, Garcia said.
