Coca-Cola Amatil to go all-renewable in Australia, New Zealand

Australian drinks giant Coca-Cola Amatil today announced a sustainability plan through 2040 and a goal to power its operations with renewables by 2025.

The beverage manufacturer, which is one of the world’s largest drinks distributors, has committed to covering 100% of its electricity demand in Australia and New Zealand with renewable electricity by 2025. The company did not specify how it would achieve this goal, while it also pledged to achieve net-zero direct carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 2040.

The local producer of Coca Cola, Sprite and Monster energy drinks announced a range of sustainability targets that put a focus on four priority areas, namely water, consumer wellbeing, packaging and carbon reduction.

Domestic environmental organisation Greenpeace Australia has welcomed Coca-Cola Amatil’s announcement, saying the switch to 100% renewables electricity “is a big step in the right direction” for the soft drink giant. It also called for the company to apply the 100% renewables transition plan for its global operations, as well.
