Australia’s Collgar Renewables aims to grow further in its home country with plans for the construction of new renewable power plants in Western Australia with a combined capacity of up to 1.7 GW.

The company, which operates the 111-turbine Collgar wind farm that is the largest one in Western Australia, unveiled plans for five new wind farms. The projects will be developed in key areas to help meet the growing energy demand over the next 20 years.

The Perth-based clean energy developer and operator said the wind farms will be installed at sites offering abundant wind resource and that complement the existing renewable energy capacity currently in the South West Interconnected System (SWIS). Further details about the schemes were not available at this point, with more information about the proposed locations will be given in the coming months.

“The team from Collgar has deep power market expertise gained from developing and operating the existing wind farm in Merredin, and this knowledge makes Collgar well placed to ensure a streamlined development and approval pathway to bring these projects to life,” said Collgar’s CEO Sam Pearce.

Collgar Renewables is wholly owned by the Retail Employees Superannuation Trust (Rest), one of Australia’s largest profit-to-member super funds. The company was set up in 2022 to develop, own and operate renewable energy assets.
