Colombian power infrastructure company Interconexion Electrica SA ESP (ISA) announced on Friday that it has secured three projects for the construction of 240 kilometres (149 miles) of transmission lines in Peru.

ProInversion, Peru’s Private Investment Promotion Agency, awarded the assignment to ISA through a public tendering process.

Under the terms, ISA has up to 51 months to execute the projects. The job will involve the construction of two new 220-kV links, one 500-kV link and two substations. The baseline investment value is USD 141 million (EUR 130.5m), ISA said.

Once the three power lines reach commercial operation, ISA will enjoy a 30-year concession period.

The new infrastructure is set to significantly augment power capacity, facilitating the connection of Piura, San Martin, and Arequipa regions. Furthermore, it will ensure a stable energy supply and enhance resilience against potential impacts of the El Nino phenomenon in these areas.

These regions will also be equipped to respond to the energy transition by facilitating the integration of clean power sources, which are expected to account for 20% of Peru’s energy mix by 2030, ISA said, citing Peruvian renewables association Sociedad Peruana de Energias Renovables.

At present, Peru’s non-hydro renewables share hovers between 5% to 6% of total electricity production.
