World set to install 593 GW of new solar in 2024 - Ember
Sep 19, 2024 13:28 CESTGerman downstream solar firm Conergy intends to expand in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region by hiring more employees there, growing its offerings to larger-scale rooftop projects and creating local partnerships.
The company announced in a statement on Tuesday that it plans to take part in the upcoming tenders in North African countries such Senegal, Zambia and Morocco. It won 50 MWp of solar power purchase agreements (PPAs) in another country in that region -- Egypt.
As per the Middle East, Conergy has already tested the rooftop solar markets in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. As part of its planned expansion, the company will add more people to its office in Dubai, it said.
Local media reported in late March that Oman’s Authority for Electricity Regulation (AER) was preparing to introduce a programme that encourages local homeowners to install solar arrays on their rooftops. Asked about that and the possibility of Conergy doing business in Oman, Rasmus Friis, the company’s president of Europe, Middle East, Africa and India, said that indeed the firm is interested in that market.
“Yes, we are looking into opportunities in Oman, and would like to leverage our rooftop capabilities in Oman in general and apply the learnings from our previous installations in the region. As far as we know, the solar programs in Oman are yet to be ignited,” he told SeeNews Renewables.
