Elawan bags Google PPA for 37-MW solar project in Texas
Sep 19, 2024 13:49 CESTMichigan energy provider Consumers Energy will power 44 locations of US retail chain Walmart (NYSE:WMT) that are within its service territory in Michigan with clean energy.
Under an agreement, announced today, Walmart will match 90% of the energy it uses across the sites with renewable energy from future projects that Consumers Energy will develop in the state.
The deal is part of Consumers Energy's Renewable Energy Programme, which now enompasses over 30 businesses with combined commitments to almost 600 MW of renewable energy to further their sustainability goals.
Walmart aims to power all its operations with renewable energy. "Walmart's energy transformation roadmap is designed to prioritise high-impact, high quality clean energy opportunities that help add new clean energy capacity to the grid and secure reliable and emissions-free power for our operations," said Stephen Chriss, senior director for utility partnerships at the retailer.
Consumers Energy recently announced it was poised to kick off construction of its first large-scale solar project, the 250-MW Muskegon Solar Energy Centre.
