Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTContent Solar Ltd, part of diversified group WRB Enterprises Inc, has commenced construction of a 20-MW solar park in Jamaica that would be the largest such facility in the Caribbean upon completion.
The USD-60-million (EUR 53.7m) project will “assist the country in its continued goal of increasing the share of renewable power generation from roughly 7% today to 15% by 2020,” prime minister Portia Simpson Miller said on Thursday. The country’s energy policy envisages Jamaica sourcing at least 20% of its power from renewables by 2030.
The fixed-tilt, ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) plant is being built in Content Village, York Town, Clarendon parish. It is expected to be up and running by June 2016.
Last month, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) agreed to lend USD 47 million to Content Solar for the development of the project.
