The Low Carbon Contracts Company (LCCC) on Thursday announced the signing of 130 contracts, representing 9.58 GW of renewable generation, for the projects successful in the UK government’s contracts for difference (CfD) allocation round 6 (AR6).

The outcome of the tender was announced in September with 131 projects, totalling 9.65 GW, winning support. AR6 secured a diverse array of technologies, encompassing established wind and solar projects as well as emerging technologies like tidal and floating offshore wind.

LCCC, a government-owned company, said today this is the highest number of contracts ever signed in a single round.

“With the contracts for AR6 now signed, we are proud to announce a significant expansion in our renewable energy portfolio. This groundbreaking round increases our capacity by 9.58 GW to a total of 34.74 GW [...],” said LCCC chief executive Neil McDermott.

As part of AR6, ScottishPower secured contracts for two projects, including the 963-MW East Anglia TWO offshore wind farm, which is expected to be operational by 2028/2029.

“It’s fantastic to reach this milestone for so much renewable generation, and especially pleasing to see offshore wind leading the charge towards a cleaner and greener future. We’ve been moving at pace since our success in the auction to confirm the supply chain for our GBP 4 billion East Anglia TWO windfarm, which will produce enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of almost one million homes,” said Ross Ovens, ScottishPower’s managing director for offshore development and operation.

LCCC offers CfDs to the auction winners and once the contracts are signed and the projects have passed their Initial Conditions Precedent, they are officially added to the CfD portfolio.
