Family-owned restaurant and convenience store chain Sheetz has entered into a long-term contract with Constellation (NASDAQ:CEG) so it could power almost 70% of its facilities in Pennsylvania with renewable energy.

The new deal supports the construction of local solar power plants with a combined capacity of 55 MW which Constellation will procure through a separate long-term power purchase agreement (PPA), it was announced on Wednesday.

Sheetz will get some 110 million kWh a year, matched by Green-e Energy Certified Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) that would be sourced from plants located throughout the US.

The convenience store chain will use a solution that builds off of the Constellation Offsite Renewables (CORe) retail power product. Amerex Energy Services represented Sheetz while working with Constellation to design and implement the structure.

“Through this purchase agreement and partnership with Constellation, Sheetz will be able to power more than 160 stores and approximately 40 other facilities with renewable energy, significantly reducing our environmental impact in Pennsylvania,” commented Travis Sheetz, president and CEO of Sheetz.
