Cooper Farms breaks ground on third 1.5-MW wind turbine

Sep 18, 2012 - US meat processing company Cooper Farms on Monday began installing the third 1.5-MW wind turbine at its cooked-meats facility in Ohio, local newspaper Lima News reported.

US wind farm developer One Energy is installing the machine for Cooper Farms.

The third turbine will be up and ready to run by the end of 2012, company spokeswoman Cassie Jo Arend told the paper. Cooper Farms spent around USD 5 million (EUR 4m) on the construction of the first two 1.5-MW turbines, Arend noted. These are expected to pay for themselves within some five years.

The third wind turbine will help the facility generate electricity to meet 75% of its power needs. The company's chief executive Jim Cooper said the plant was now using around 15 million kWh annually.
