Offshore wind developer Corio Generation and Brazilian shipyard and marine construction company Estaleiros do Brasil (EBR) have inked a pact to study how EBR's infrastructure could be utilised for the deployment of 2,400 MW of offshore wind capacity in Rio Grande do Sul state.

Corio announced on Tuesday it plans to install the Casino and Rio Grande offshore wind parks, each with an individual capacity of more than 1,200 MW off Brazil’s south coast.

Under the agreement, the parties will analyse how EBR’s existing infrastructure could support the two wind farms, with the potential to enter commercial negotiations to reserve a site to help deploy the projects.

“With its long coastline and favourable sea conditions, Brazil has incredible potential to harness the power of offshore wind and build a future based on clean, green energy and a prosperous low-carbon economy", said Ricardo de Luca, Country Director of Brazil at Corio Generation.

Corio noted it is working together with local power generation firm Servtec to build 6 GW of fixed-bottom offshore wind farms in Brazil.
