Offshore wind developer Corio, part of the Macquarie Group, and Norwegian energy company A Energi have signed a strategic partnership agreement on offshore wind in Norway and Northern Europe.

The companies will collaborate on upcoming Norwegian tenders and will also explore opportunities in key markets across the Nordics and Northern Europe. The agreement deepens their relationship, building on the Nordvegen Vind consortium formed by Corio and A Energi to pursue the development of a floating wind farm in the Utsira Nord area off the west coast of Norway. The Norwegian government is set to auction 1.5 GW of floating wind capacity at Utsira in the 2024/25 period.

"We have an excellent working relationship with Corio, and we complement each other well. That's why we want to develop this further with the aim of taking a role in the offshore wind projects that will be announced in the coming years, both in Norway and in the North Sea basin,” said A Energi chief executive Steffen Syvertsen.

The partnership combines Corio’s international offshore wind expertise with A Energi’s experience in Norway and the Nordics. The new pact was announced on Tuesday as Jonathan Cole, CEO of Corio Generation, attended A Energi’s annual conference in Kristiansand, Norway.

In March, a consortium of Parkwind and Ingka Investments won Norway's first offshore wind auction to develop the 1.5-GW Sorlige Nordsjo II phase 1 area.

Corio Generation, A Energi and Vargronn had also formed a consortium, Brigg Vind, to target Sorlige Nordsjo II. According to information on Corio Generation’s website, the Brigg Vind consortium had decided not to submit a pre-qualification application for the first phase of Sorlige Nordsjo II.
