Offshore wind developer Corio, part of the Macquarie Group, said Monday it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Vietnam’s EVNGENCO3 to work together in preparing long-term strategies for offshore wind project development.

Power generator EVNGENCO3 is a subsidiary of state-owned power company Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

Corio said the pact shows its commitment to supporting Vietnam’s net zero emissions goal, including a 6 GW offshore wind target by 2030 and 70 GW-91.5 GW by 2050. It added its team has been developing a fixed-bottom project of up to 3 GW in Binh Thuan since 2019.

“We are excited to be signing this agreement with EVNGENCO3 to power Vietnam’s fast-growing economy through developing clean and sustainable offshore wind energy,” commented Yi-Hua Lu, head of APAC region for Corio Generation.

The MoU exchange took place on March 5 during the Australia-Vietnam Business Forum in Melbourne and was attended by Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

Danish fund manager Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) also recently unveiled plans to collaborate on renewable energy and offshore wind with PetroVietnam.
