CORRECTED - Austrian Activ Solar completes 100-MW solar power plant in Ukraine

Dec 30, 2011 - Austrian solar technology developer Activ Solar on Wednesday said it had started commissioning of the fifth and final phase of its 100-MW Perovo solar power plant in Ukraine.

The plant includes 440,000 crystalline photovoltaic (PV) modules on an area of 200 hectares (494.2 acres). The facility will generate 132,500 MWh of electricity, enough to offset 105,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year, according to Active Solar.

The Perovo plant has been the company's largest solar power project so far and among the largest in the world, the Austrian company said.

In October, Active Solar opened the 80-MW Ohotnikovo solar power plant and lately set up an office in Ukraine. The company remains focused on emerging solar markets and plans further large-scale developments in the coming years.
