CORRECTED - Chile's renewable energy output falls 0.5% M/M in Sep 2013

Oct 25, 2013 - Chile's renewable energy output went down 0.5% month-on-month to 363 GWh in September, the energy ministry's Renewable Energy Centre (CER) said in its monthly report.

However, renewable energy came to represent 6.7% of Chile's electricity output, the highest share since the beginning of 2013, mainly due to a decrease in conventional generation and lower demand, CER said.

In the first nine months of 2013, renewable energy represented 5.79% of total power output. Bioenergy led renewable energy generation, with 53%, followed by mini hydro plants, with 34%, and wind power, with 13%.

In October, Chile opened a 1 MW solar park in Coquimbo region, increasing installed solar energy capacity to 6.7 MW.

Chile has renewable energy plants of combined 1,069 MW, equal to 6.06% of its total installed capacity. Bioenergy totals 442 MW, including 404 MW biomass and 38 MW biogas.
