CORRECTED - Ukrainian 500-MW wind project to commission 1st phase by autumn 2020

The first phase of the 500-MW Zaporizhia wind farm project in Ukraine is expected to be fully commissioned by October-November 2020, turbine manufacturer GE Renewable Energy told Renewables Now, correcting an earlier announcement by a building materials supplier, which said operations began this May.

The wind farm’s developer EuroCape New Energy has also denied that the 98-MW first phase went into operation this month, as incorrectly stated by the supplier and reported by Renewables Now.

In an email correspondence with Renewables Now, GE said that construction suffered delays related to balance-of-plant (BOP) works. By mid-May, first foundations and access roads were ready, allowing turbine installation to begin.

Construction at the site in the Zaporizhia region started in August 2019, according to information posted on the project’s official website.

GE’s media representative expressed confidence that the wind farm will be fully commissioned by this autumn and start generating electricity for Ukrainian state-owned enterprise Energorynok.

The second phase of the 500-MW wind farm complex is in the negotiation phase, GE said.
