CORRECTED - West Holding switches on 1.2-MW water-based PV plant in Japan - report

Jul 22, 2013 - Japanese solar system installer West Holding Corp (TYO:1407) has put on stream a 1.2-MW solar plant on water on Japan's Honshu island, the Nikkei said on Saturday.

The photovoltaic (PV) facility, worth about JPY 400 million (USD 4m/EUR 3m), was installed at an industrial park at a water reservoir in the city of Okegawa, Saitama prefecture. Featuring 4,500 panels attached to floating plastic tanks, the system has a 10% higher generation as compared to ground-mount plants, according to the developer.

The output of the plant will be sold to local utility Tokyo Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9501) and is estimated to fetch JPY 52 million in revenues per year. In addition, it will bring about JPY 40 million to the city of Okegawa over a 20-year period for use of the water reservoir.
