Court decides in favour of European Energy in relation to Swedish solar project

The Land and Environment Court in Vaxjo, southern Sweden, has approved a 128.5-MW solar project that is being developed by European Energy A/S in Svedberga, outside of Helsingborg.

The company announced the ruling on Monday, saying that it is ready to being construction and that if no appeal is lodged, the plant could start power production in 2024.

The construction of the facility was halted earlier in 2022 as the County Board in Skane chose to reject the project application. The court, however, has determined that this decision was wrong because European Energy has proposed sufficient measures to protect the environment.

“The solar park in Svedberga will generate new green electricity corresponding to the annual consumption of 35,000 residential households, which is the largest single contribution of new electricity to the region in many years,” said Jens-Peter Zink, Deputy CEO of European Energy.

The project covers a total area of ​​232.5 hectares but the actual solar installation will take up only a third, while the rest could be used for agricultural cultivation.
