World set to install 593 GW of new solar in 2024 - Ember
Sep 19, 2024 13:28 CEST(ADPnews) – Oct 7, 2010 - US company Covanta Energy, part of Covanta Holding Corporation (NYSE:CVA), will build a large-scale waste-to-energy facility using combined heat and power (CHP) technology at Drumshangie, to the east of Glasgow.
The Airdrie North project, which has already obtained planning consent, will crank out 24 MW of renewable electricity for export to the National Grid, along with 23 MW of thermal energy for use in district heating or chilling and to support co-located industrial and business processes.
It will process a mix of municipal residual waste and commercial and industrial (C&I) waste, the developer said last week.
The facility’s combined heat and power output would be enough to supply around 80,000 homes with clean energy.
Building works are scheduled to begin in autumn 2011, with the launch date set for early 2015.
