Elawan bags Google PPA for 37-MW solar project in Texas
Sep 19, 2024 13:49 CESTGerman polymer materials supplier Covestro AG (ETR:1COV) will get electricity from wind farms to cover 45% of its demand in Antwerp under a corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) with Engie SA (EPA:ENGI).
The company announced the contract for 39 MW of wind capacity last week, saying supply will commence from April 1. The power will come from 15 turbines at four new wind farms, all part of the Conquest4Wind P5 partnership.

In Antwerp, Belgium, Covestro produces the high-performance plastic polycarbonate, used in car headlights, electrical and electronic components, LED lights, medical technology and other applications. It also produces polyethers and aniline. The PPA with Engie will help Covestro cut its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by over 38,500 tonnes.
The company aims to halve its specific CO2 emissions by 2025 from 2005 and subtract most of the remaining energy from wind power. Back in 2019, it entered into a 10-year PPA with Denmark’s Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) for the output of 100 MW at the Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind complex. Supply under this deal starts in 2025.
