Queensland government-owned CS Energy today said it has acquired a 285-MW wind farm project from Denmark’s Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and announced the start of construction works.

The AUD-1.3-billion (USD 860.5m/EUR 781.5m) Lotus Creek Wind Farm scheme calls for installing 46 turbines near St Lawrence, in the Isaac region of Queensland, and is expected to lead to the production of power for around 150,000 homes a year. The project was originated by the Aussie development team of Denmark’s Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) and is fully permitted by state and federal government authorities.

Following the transaction, CS Energy has issued a notice to proceed with construction to Vestas and Zenviron, which have been hired to lead equipment supply and construction. Building works are slated to begin over the next few weeks.

In a separate statement, Vestas said it will supply and install its V162-6.2 MW machines for the project and will service them under a long-term deal. It expects to deliver the hardware in the first quarter of 2026 and bring the plant online in the closing quarter of the same year.

The Lotus Creek project will be realised with AUD 624.3 million in funding from the Queensland government’s Renewable Energy and Hydrogen Jobs Fund and will also receive AUD 300 million from coal royalties.
