The Cuban government is making construction progress to double the capacity of a 2-5.MW solar photovoltaic (PV) park in Mayajigua in the northern municipality of Yaguajay, state-owned news agency Prensa Latina reported on Saturday.

The soon to be a 5-MW park will become the largest in Sancti Spiritus province. Its expansion will allow the generation of 315 MWh per month, the director of the entrepreneurial unit for renewable energy sources of the provincial electric company, Reinier Hernandez, said.

Through the use of Italian technology, which permits faster assembly and fewer resources and labour, Hernadez expects the PV facility to be running in late May.

Currently, Sancti Spiritus generates an average of 75 MWh of solar power with its six operational PV parks, of which three are installed in Yaguajay municipality, the news agency said.
