Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTJul 16, 2012 - Cuba's first biodiesel plant using jatropha curcas started production in the eastern province of Guantanamo on Friday, Cuba's news agency AIN reported.
Located near the Guantanamo city, the plant has a capacity to produce over 100 tonnes of biodiesel a year. A total 130 ha (321.2 acres) of jatropha will be cultivated so that the plant could operate at full capacity and the biodiesel could be used pure, without fossil fuel, in agricultural engines, engineer Jose Sotolongo who worked on the project told AIN.
The plant is part of a Cuban project for the use of biomass as a source of renewable energy in rural areas. The project is developed by Cuban institutions with support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
