Cuba to build 50 MW wind farm in Las Tunas - report

Dec 17, 2012 - Cuba will start building a 50 MW wind farm in Jesus Menendez municipality in the eastern province of Las Tunas which will be the largest wind power facility in the country, local news agency AIN said on Saturday.

The project includes the installation of some 30 turbines on the northern coast that will produce nearly 150 GWh a year, according to the pre-feasibility study. The wind farm, due to be completed in 2015, will reduce contaminant gas emissions and will save costs for imports equivalent to 54,000 tonnes of fuel oil.

Cuba has wind farms in Holguin and Ciego de Avila provinces and Isla de la Juventud municipality.
