Cuba will construct a bioelectric plant and a 50-MW wind farm using a loan granted by India.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Raul Garcia Barreiro, at the Solar Alliance International (ISA) in India and reported by state news agency Prensa Latina.

The bioelectric plant will be installed on the site of a sugar mill in the western province of Artemisa, while the wind farm will be constructed in Holguin, in the northeast region of the island.

Cuba, which aims to raise the use of clean power in the Caribbean archipelago to 24% by 2030, has broken ground on 101 MW of wind farms. Currently, the largest of the Antilles has 116 MW of solar installed capacity with another 65 MW under construction, the news agency noted.
