Cuba to soon double capacity of IRENA-supported PV park Solar farm. Author: Alan Levine.

The Mayajigua solar photovoltaic (PV) park in central Cuba will double its installed capacity to 5 MW next year.

The 2.5-MW park was built with the support of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), a local expert told the press as picked up by state-owned agency Prensa Latina.

Construction work is due to start in early December and finalise in March next year.

The province of Sancti Spiritus has six PV parks in operation, the report states.

The Cuban government has set a target to produce at least 24% of the island’s electricity from renewable sources by 2030, according to the energy ministry. The renewables share by October 2019 was 5%.
