UK-based renewables investor Cubico Sustainable Investments plans to build a 100-MW wind park in proximity to an existing wind turbine generation complex in North West England.

Called Scout Moor II, the project is the first major onshore wind development in England in over a decade and will create the largest wind farm in England, Cubico said on Tuesday. The developer has opened the project for consultations before moving to the planning permit procedures.

The proposed wind farm will be located near the existing Scout Moor wind farm between Edenfield, Rawtenstall and Rochdale and is expected to be switched on before 2030. Once up and running, it will be able to generate electricity for more than 100,000 homes and cover around 10% of Greater Manchester’s domestic energy needs.

The project will represent an investment of some GBP 500 million (USD 649.2m/EUR 595.2m).

At present, Cubico operates over 250 MW of wind and solar parks in the UK. The company said it plans an investment of around GBP 300 million in new green energy projects over the next few years.
