Cypriot energy regulator authorises 1.7 MW of solar projects

Dec 18, 2012 - The Cypriot Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) last Friday issued licences for 18 solar projects with a combined capacity of 1.7 MW.

The authorisation of the projects followed the regulator's recent application call for photovoltaic (PV) projects of between 20 kW and 150 kW in capacity. Out of the total 553 applications filed between July 23 and October 15, 21 dropped their project proposals and 181 did not manage to gather the required documents, the CERA said.

Of the 351 projects which went through, 18 were granted public subsidies under Cyprus' program for renewable energy subsidies for 2012 and 2013. The rates for on-grid PV installations of this size are EUR 0.25 (USD 0.33) per kWh.

The remaining applications are expected to be considered next year, when the regulator announces the state program for energy subsidies for the years 2013 and 2014.
