Sep 02, 2024 15:52 CESTThe Czech Republic's industry ministry said it has signed an agreement to statistically transfer a 465 GWh renewable energy surplus to Slovenia for about 5 million euro ($5.7 million).
The Czech Republic which has met the mandatory share of renewable sources in its energy mix for 2020 signed an agreement for the statistical transfer of the energy surplus to Slovenia before the start of the European Energy Council in Brussels, the industry ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
"Those EU member states that have production of electricity from renewable sources higher than their national targets can offer these surpluses to other member states which fail to meet the annual targets," Czech Republic's deputy industry minister Rene Nedela said.
In 2020, Slovenia produced 5,600 GWh of electricity from renewable energy sources, accounting for 33% of its entire power output, according to the country's statistical office. Hydropower plants contributed 93% of Slovenia's total renewable energy output.
