ABP presents plan to turn Port of Barrow into renewables hub
Sep 18, 2024 14:41 CESTApr 17, 2012 - Danish state-owned utility Dong Energy said today it had been cleared to test two new 6 MW offshore wind turbines of German engineering group Siemens (ETR:SIE) at its Gunfleet Sands site in southeastern England.
The project is in line with Dong Energy's ambition to develop the offshore wind industry and thus reduce the cost of energy, the company said.
The construction of the wind turbines will start in May at Dong Energy’s Gunfleet Sands 3 demonstration project and they are to be installed by November.
A prototype of the 6 MW turbine is also being tested at an onshore test centre in Hovsore, Denmark.
The Gunfleet Sands Offshore Wind Farm, which started operation in 2010, has a capacity of 172 MW, which is enough to supply electricity to 125,000 British households.
