Danish fashion firm to power up 207-MW solar park

Danish family-owned fashion company Bestseller said today a 207-MWp solar park in Denmark, described as the largest in Northern Europe, is ready to be connected to the European grid.

The plant, located near Holstebro, is owned by Bestseller’s parent company Heartland. It was built without public support in cooperation with Danish energy company Better Energy.

The solar park will sell its output to Bestseller and other companies under power purchase agreements (PPAs).

The PPA will help Bestseller cover 100% of its electricity consumption with renewable energy as it aims to become climate positive. The company will cover its energy consumption outside Europe with contracts with other local renewable energy plants.

Dorte Rye Olsen, sustainability head at Bestseller, said the company is aware most of its extended climate footprint happens in its value chain. “This means that we still have lots of work ahead in order to achieve our overall climate goals. Here we take responsibility for our own business, which is an important step to inspire further action,” Dorte Rye Olsen added.

The solar park’s capacity is sufficient to meet the annual power demand of 130,000 Danish consumers. Its start of construction was announced last summer.
