US digital infrastructure company Equinix Inc (NASDAQ:EQIX) has signed seven wind power offtake agreements in France with German renewables developer Wpd, thus supporting the construction of more than 100 MW of installed capacity.

The power purchase agreements (PPAs), having a term of 20 years, cover annual electricity production of more than 300 GWh. The clean power will be sourced from four wind farms to be built in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, two in Hauts-de France, and one site in Pays de la Loire.

The agreements, which will come into force no later than 2025, were facilitated by Schneider Electric. The generated guarantees of origin (GO) will be allocated to the 11 data centres operated by Equinix in France, according to a statement released on Wednesday.

“We are proud to conclude one of the largest green electricity purchase contracts in history in France. Signing this agreement with wpd helps us take a big step forward on our own path to carbon neutrality by 2030,” said Regis Castagne, general manager of Equinix France.

The deal with Wpd marks the 20th long-term green PPA for the US data centre operator, adding to a total capacity of 912 MW secured via similar agreements in the US, France, Finland, Spain, Portugal and Sweden.
