African hybrid solar energy solutions provider Daystar Power will set up and operate a 4.2-MWp solar power plant and a 2-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) for a brewer in Lagos, Nigeria.

Daystar said on Tuesday that it has signed an agreement with Nigerian Breweries Plc, a Heineken NV (AMS:HEIA) company, to design, install and operate the hybrid system at its brewery in the Iganmu neighbourhood of Lagos.

This project, one of Nigeria's largest solar-plus-storage solutions for an industrial manufacturer, aims to generate 42% of Nigerian Breweries' daytime power consumption, reducing its reliance on diesel generators.

The system will generate some 5,249 MWh of electricity annually, helping to displace 31.4 million litres of diesel and offset 84,758 tonnes of CO2 over the 20-year life of the installation, Daystar said.

The project is aligned with Heineken’s sustainability goals, supports the company's decarbonisation efforts in production by 2030 and the broader value chain by 2040.

Daystar Power is part of Shell Plc (LON:SHEL).
