DEME Offshore will upgrade the crane of its jack-up installation vessel Sea Installer, so that it can deploy the next generation of offshore wind turbines.

The unit of Belgian dredging group DEME this week said that the new crane is being built by crane manufacturer Huisman. The upgrade will boost the vessel’s crane capacity to 1,600 tonnes from 900 tonnes.

The first project for the upgraded Sea Installer will be the 800-MW Vineyard Wind 1 project in the US, which will conisit of 62 GE Haliade-X offshore wind turbines. The vessel is currently working on the Hornsea Two offshore wind farm in the UK.

DEME has also obtained an option for a crane upgrade on jack-up installation vessel Sea Challenger.
