Denham Capital backs GreenWish's 600 MW renewables plan for Africa

Private equity firm Denham Capital will support GreenWish Partners in a plan to build 600 MW of renewable energy capacity in sub-Saharan Africa by 2020.

The strategic partnership was announced today by the pair. The capital commitment by the energy-focused private equity firm will allow the African renewables platform to carry out a USD-1-billion (EUR 887m) project pipeline. Details on specific projects were not disclosed.

Overall, renewable energy investment company GreenWish will be developing on and off-grid projects for utilities and commercial and industrial off takers, including telecoms and mines, in Sub-Saharan countries. Currently, over 600 million people in the region have no access to electricity.

GreenWish already has a 20-MW solar independent power producer project in progress in Senegal, in partnership with French construction group Vinci. The Senergy II park is under construction and will be up and ready to run this October.
