Danish utility Hofor has said it will not buy Russia-produced biomass in the future in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Hofor is now examining existing agreements to possibly reduce or eliminate the share of Russian biomass it receives for the Amager combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Copenhagen, it said.

The company is also Russia’s natural gas customer, although in small measure. Hofor’s gas purchases from Norway, the Netherlands, North African countries and Russia represent less than 40% of its supply. Locally-sourced biogas accounts for over 60% of the utility’s city gas supply, with Hofor adding that it expects to increase this share.

Hofor further stated it would comply with political measures and sanctions on imports from Russia, and encouraged customers to adopt energy conservation practices.
