German wind turbine technology specialist Deutsche Windtechnik AG has set up a unit in Belgium, entering the local market with an initial focus on providing maintenance services for the onshore wind sector.

Based in Hasselt, Deutsche Windtechnik Belgium BV will be led by Geert Timmers, who is the managing director of Deutsche Windtechnik in the Netherlands, the turbine servicer said.

Timmers highlighted benefits the new shop would bring to Belgian wind farm operators, saying that they will “finally have a real choice regarding their service provider”.

“Up till now, turbine manufacturers have dominated the service market in Belgium,” Timmers said.

Deutsche Windtechnik plans to establish service hubs across Belgium, bringing a range of maintenance services for multiple brands of wind turbines, including Vestas, Siemens, Enercon, Nordex, and Senvion.

The Belgian unit has already secured a major full maintenance contract for 15 Vestas V80 wind turbines located at different locations across the country, and it is also receiving inquiries for offshore service, the company added.
