Divert starts work on another waste-to-energy project in US

US food waste management company Divert Inc has turned the first sod on a second waste-to-energy facility in less than half a year -- a site in Longview, Washington which will process 100,000 tons of wasted food annually.

Integrated Diversion & Energy Facility will span 66,000 square feet (6,131 sq m) and will accept wasted food from Washington and Oregon. It is expected to offset up to 23,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide yearly.

Divert and its backer, energy infrastructure firm Enbridge Inc, expect to jointly invest nearly USD 100 million (EUR 93.6m) into the project and the local economy, the company said in a statement.

The new site is scheduled to be launched in operation in 2024.

Earlier this year, Divert kicked off construction works on its planned waste-to-energy facility in Turlock, California which is expected to produce renewable energy enough to power nearly 3,000 homes annually.
