The Dominican Republic’s national energy commission CNE has granted a definitive concession to the developer of the 7-MW Energia Renovable Ingenio Barahona biomass-fired energy project to be located in the town of Santa Cruz de Barahona.

The energy commission signed the concession deal with project sponsor Empresa Consorcio Azucarero Central SA (CAC), it announced on Tuesday. According to information available on CNE’s website, the concession is granted for a period of 10 years.

CAC is a company dedicated to the cultivation and production of sugarcane, the largest industry in the country's southern region. Accordingly, the Ingenio Barahona facility will run on sugarcane bagasse.
