Dominican Republic greenlights 25-MW solar project Solar panels by iamme ubeyou.

The national energy commission (CNE) of the Dominican Republic has granted a definitive concession for the 25-MW/32.6-MWp Canoa II solar park project to be realised in the province of Barahona.

CNE signed the concession contract with project sponsor Empresa Emerald Solar Energy SRL, it announced last week.

The Canoa II solar farm will be located in the town of Vicente Noble.

The new agreement is an amendment to the previous definitive concession contract that allowed Emerald Solar to build the first phase of the Canoa solar project, also with a capacity of 25 MW.

CNE's executive director, Edward Veras, said that the 16 projects currently under construction in different parts of the Dominican Republic will enable the country to meet its goal of having renewables cover 25% of the national demand for electricity by 2025.
