Dominican Republic government officials have inaugurated a 50-MW/80-MWp solar farm in the country's San Pedro de Macoris province.

Named El Soco, the photovoltaic (PV) plant required more than USD 90 million (EUR 83.6m) in investments, according to a statement released by the Dominican Republic’s energy commission CNE on Monday. The PV facility is capable of generating around 130 million kWh of clean power per year.

During 2021 and part of 2022, the local government has inked construction contracts for 620 MW of solar capacity, president Luis Abinader said. He also stated that ten solar projects are currently under construction, which represents a record investment of USD 800 million.
